Extranets are similar to Intranets however they are design to be accessed by internal and external users for different reasons that all work together to build a solid business artifact. An example of an extranet is a system whereby the controlling company maintains full access to all features and they may "section" off parts of the application to 3rd party companies. For example, a retails shop may use the system to manage stock control and inventory, and a 3rd party delivery company can also log in, but they can only update information about their prices and availability.
